Train crash involving a pedestrian reported in Rayne

Rayne Police say a man is dead after he was struck by a train while walking on Mervine Kahn Extension. 

On Monday November 27, 2017, at 1:14 PM, a report of a train accident was reported at the railroad intersection with Mervine Kahn Extension. Officers along with Acadian Ambulance responded and discovered a pedestrian unresponsive.

Police say a man was walking North on Mervine Kahn Extension and was struck a by a west bound Amtrak Train traveling from New Orleans to Beaumont. Acadia Parish Coroner’s office pronounced the man dead at the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

The investigation is continuing at this time.
