Family holds vigil for shooting victim

Posted: Updated:

The family of a New Iberia shooting victim held a vigil for him today.

The family of Davon Thompson, 37, who died in a shooting near the intersection of Mississippi and Cletus streets, held the vigil near St. Edward's Church today.

Thompson was not involved in the gangs who are fighting in the city, his family said. He was an innocent bystander, and his death strengthens the call for the violence to end, his family said.

"All that street nonsense, my brother wasn't about that," said his sister, Victoria Thompson. "He was a very kind person, and a very loving person and he didn't deserve to die like this. It has to stop, it has to stop. Too many innocent people have lost their lives," said Davon's sister Victoria Thompson.

Funeral Services for Davon Thompson will be held Monday at 10 am at Fletcher's Funeral Home. To read his obituary, click here
