Police: Two arrested in shooting incident in Opelousas

Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in October in the City of Opelousas. 

Police say they arrested two men in the incident which occurred on October 13, 2017, in the 500 block of E. South Street. One person was shot in the leg during the shooting which happened at around 10:00 p.m. that night.

Arrested was 23-year-old Kenan Charles and  21-year-old Joseph Stelly, both of Opelousas. Police say Joseph Stelly allegedly hired a hit man to kill Kennan Charles. Charles shot at the hitman, hitting him in the leg. The alleged hitman is still recovering in the hospital but police indicate that a third arrest is pending.

Charles was arrested on the following charges:

  • Felon In Possession Of A Firearm
  • Illegal Carrying Of Weapons
  • Illegal Use Of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities

Stelly was arrested on the following charges:

  • Solicitation For Murder
  • Attempted 1st Degree Murder
  • Felon In Possession Of A Firearm
  • Illegal Carrying Of Weapons
