UPDATE: State Police have identified the man who died in this morning's crash.

Scott Ward, 38, of New Iberia, died in the 10 a.m. crash, Troop I said.

Troopers say Ward was operating a 2014 Dodge truck eastbound on the frontage road.  For unknown reasons, the Dodge ran off of the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire, they said.

Ward was wearing a seat belt, but sustained fatal injuries.  He was pronounced dead on scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.  As part of the on-going investigation, Troopers obtained toxicology samples which will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE: Troopers confirmed with KATC that the crash is fatal. Troopers say the crash occurred on the Frontage Rd. adjacent to Hwy 90. The crash occurred right before 9:00 am.

Iberia Parish Fire District 1 is on the scene of a truck fire located on Hwy 90 East between Darnall Rd. and Weeks Island Rd.

Dispatchers said that a single truck had crashed into a tree and was on fire by the time the fire department arrived at the scene. It was said that one person was trapped inside the vehicle, but could not be removed. It was unknown by dispatchers if the person trapped within the vehicle was deceased. Acadian communications did report that a possible fatality had occurred at the scene.

Fire crews are still on the scene and the fire is being put under control. There are no road closures due to this fire, but a lane was closed as crews worked to put out the fire.
