ACA Defenders win Laguna Beach Bowl

ACA Defenders are the 2017 NHFA (National Homeschool Football Association) Laguna Beach Bowl Champions.

Fourteen Homeschool teams from across the country traveled to Panama City Beach Florida for the annual NHFA National Championships. The fourteen teams competed for a shot at 6 possible bowl championships and a NHFA National Championship. The NHFA Tournament is structured similarly to the college football playoff system with the top four teams competing for the National Championship. Several other bowl championship games are played leading up to the National title game.

2017 NHFA Tournament teams included (alphabetical order): Acadiana Christian Athletics (LA) Central Maryland (MD) Christ Prep (KS) Crimson Knights (IN) Dallas Christian (TX) Georgia Force (GA) HSAA Blue Angels (TX) Lighthouse Christian (MO) Maryland Christian (MD) Memphis Nighthawks (TN) Northern Virginia (VA) North Oklahoma Jaguars (OK) Northside Lions (TX) Texas Wind Athletics (TX) Acadiana Christian Defenders defeated the Northern Virginia Centurions 29-0 to win their first ever NHFA Bowl Championship.

ACA was led by sophomore quarterback Jordan Freyou who threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a third. Number one homeschool running back in the nation, Matthew Richard, continued his dominant running by adding 125 rush yards for the Defenders. Senior wing back Andrew Broussard contributed 72 rushing yards as well as a receiving touchdown. Defensively the Defenders shutdown a Northern Virginia offense that averaged over 200 passing yards and 100 rush yards per game. The Defenders racked up five turnovers in the shutout performance. ACA players Matthew Richard and Andrew Broussard were selected to the NHFA All Star team. ACA players Isaac Seilhan and Cameron Guilliot were selected as honorable mentions for the NHFA All Star team.
