Spirit of Acadiana: M&S Grocery

Posted: Updated:

This is how it ends, but this is also where the magic called an "M&S Grocery" fried turkey truly happens

M&S Grocery actually evolved from the legend that was Comeaux's Store. A wonderful spot near UL started by Frank and Eula Mae Comeaux in the 1960s.

When their daughter Sandra married a certain guy named "Millard", they opened their own spot, M&S Grocery, first on Lillian street and now on Alexander.

There's great people, great plate lunches, great boudin, and more.

but this time of year, it's all about the bird. Ryan Degeytaire's Dad taught him well.

"Our process of the way we inject, season mixes and frying times. I caught on pretty quick."

Prep time begins in the kitchen, as Millard Degeytaire himself adds the flavor, the juice, and the stuff.

When asked about his secret ingredients Degeytaire is quick to say there are rules against spilling the beans, "I'd tell you, but would have to kill you."

From the kitchen, the turkeys are delivered outside, to Ryan, for a bit of frying; a bit of magic.

Between now and Wednesday, hundreds of turkeys will come and go at M&S. The cutoff time for orders is Monday, November 20.

One thing's for sure, this turkey is guaranteed delicious.
