New bus routes and transfer zones in Lafayette

Posted: Updated:

New bus routes in Lafayette are now in effect.

Lafayette Consolidated Government says there are two big things bus riders need to know about the route changes, especially for regular passengers on Route 70 and Route 25.

"The biggest change that we're instituting is a route changing time for two of our runs in particular that go to the Southern end of the city.  Routes 25, Johnston street, and Route 70, Pinhook Road. We've added 10 minutes of running time to that," said Parking and Transportation director Michael Mitchell.

The other big change to the system aims to shorten your commute.

"Well they made changes so you don't have to do as many transfers," said a passenger who tells KATC he was pleased with the changes.

Prior to the change, passengers would have to ride all the way to the transportation center to change bus routes. Now, LCG has created "transfer zones" to change that.

"A passenger will be able to transfer from the 70 over to the number 25 without having to return to the downtown transfer center. It will make the route running times a little bit easier," said Mitchell.

With holiday traffic growing heavier, LCG says the transfer zones were made with major shopping areas in mind.

"So we just have more buses kind of focusing on that corridor there, from Ambassador and Congress to Ambassador and Kaliste Saloom Road," said Mitchell.

Another shopping spot, Walmart on Ambassador Caffrey is now a transfer zone for Congress Street and Cameron Street routes.
