The suspect wanted in connection with an attempted aggravated arson over the weekend on Eleventh Street in Lafayette has been arrested.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Eleventh Street. The Lafayette Fire Department says they were called out to the scene where a female suspect was seen pouring a liquid around a vehicle. Upon arrival, first responders noticed what appeared to be gasoline around the vehicle in the driveway. The suspect, now identified as 38-year-old Rosanna Prejean of Lafayette, had fled the scene prior to firefighters arriving.

Fire Officials say that as the victim was leaving her home, she noticed Prejean drive up and pour gasoline around her vehicle. The victim had her grandchildren with her and quickly removed them from the vehicle. The victim says Prejean then tried to start a fire before leaving the scene.

Annette Levine who owns the home, said she was trying to leave and came face to face with her former neighbor.

"I hadn't seen this lady in over 5 years, she used to be my neighbor, she use to live across the street from me. When she first moved there, all I tried to do was help her, and then it was like all of a sudden a light went on and she just switched on m. She started calling me satan, would flash my husband in the morning, putting notes on her door saying i'm worshiping the devil," Levine said.

After calling 911, the victim continued throwing gas on the ground and on Levine, telling her that she was going to come after her entire family.

"Somebody needs to help me. She threw gasoline on me and she was standing in the gasoline. She could have blown up herself. I am terrified for my family, I am. So somebody needs to help me and find out what can I do to make sure nothing else happens to my family with all of this chaos," Levine said.

The motive for the incident is still under investigation. Prejean was arrested for attempted aggravated arson. Fire investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716.
