Flood recovery moving forward for Maurice

Posted: Updated:

The Village of Maurice Council will consider bids for the construction project for the renovation of city hall and the police department on Wednesday.

The city hall building became one of many casualties of the 2016 Historic Flood and two FEMA trailers have been serving as a makeshift city hall for more than a year.

This year the village was cut from the state's capital outlay fund, stifling any hope of using state money to rebuild. That was followed by months of back and forth with FEMA to get assistance there.

In October, Maurice Mayor Wayne Theriot finally had some good news to share.

FEMA has agreed to help restore city hall and the police station back to their pre-flood conditions, which will hopefully get village operations back up to pre-flood standards as well.
