Lake Charles shooter arrested

UPDATE: Lake Charles Police have identified the victim and the alleged suspect in an afternoon shooting.

Ernest Samuel Miller, 38, died at a local hospital after being found with several gunshot wounds at the intersection of Ryan and Mill streets. 

Detectives identified Joey Julian, 34, as the suspect in the shooting. Julian's most recent address was in Baton Rouge. They provided information about him to area law enforcement, and Troopers with Troop I located his vehicle on I-10 just east of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. 

Julian was arrested and booked with second-degree murder. No bond has yet been set for his release. 

The investigation is continuing. 

The Initial Officers were Corporal Wilbert Ponthieux and Officer Tre’ Mixon; and the Lead Investigators are Detective Willie Fontenot and Detective Sergeant John Russell.


State Police have arrested a suspect in a Lake Charles shooting in Iberville Parish, KPLC reports.

A person was shot at the intersection of Mill and Ryan streets at about 1 p.m. this afternoon, Lake Charles Police told KPLC. 

Louisiana State Police arrested a suspect in the shooting at about 3 p.m. east of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge on the Interstate, KPLC reports. 

The investigation is ongoing into why the shooting happened, but police say the two knew each other.
