Widow of Christon Chaisson speaks for the first time since his death

Lafayette, La-

Christon Chaisson was shot and killed in August in Downtown Lafayette, doing what witnesses tell KATC was protecting a woman who was in a fight with a man.

His widow, Kelly Chaisson, spoke with KATC for the first time since he was killed, she said she is being strong for her son.

"He acted as a good Samaritan, he saw somebody in need and took action," Chaisson said.

Life for Kelly and her three year old son has not been easy since Christon's death.

"My child's life is forever changed. He doesn't have a mom and dad. Wherever we go, everyone has a mom and dad. I have to show him a different way," Chaisson said.

The family was tested once again in the past few weeks, when they learned the suspect in Christon's death, Tyler Benoit, was released after his bond was reduced.

"He took our person away from us. He took a life and he deserves to serve life," Chaisson said.

While she and her family focus on Justice being served, they are also focusing on a legacy Christon exemplified in his death,

She aims to send the message to all people to continue to help people and do things for others in the community.
