KINDER, La. -

One man is dead after shooting himself during a police pursuit through Beauregard and Allen parishes, KPLC reports.

Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert said the suspect led authorities down U.S. 190 before shooting himself in Kinder.

The chase began in Beauregard Parish after the suspect allegedly dropped his son off at a park at the intersection of U.S. 190 and U.S. 171.

Once Beauregard Parish Sheriff's deputies located the child, he provided deputies with a description of his father's vehicle.

Deputies found the vehicle nearby, under the 171 overpass, but as they approached, the car took off.

Additional information is pending.
