Fields And Thomas Named To SBC Preseason Teams

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference as the conference released its 2017-18 Preseason Poll and Preseason All-Conference teams on Thursday.

CAJUNS GETTING RECOGNITION: Senior forward Simone Fields was named to the Preseason All-Conference First Team while sophomore guard Jasmine Thomas was named to the third team giving the Cajuns two honorees heading into the season.

CAJUNS RECEIVING VOTES: Louisiana received one first place vote gaining 116 points total to place them only three points behind the defending Sun Belt Tournament champion Troy Trojans, who were picked to finish third this season.

HOW THE CONFERENCE WAS PICKED TO FINISH: The UT-Arlington Mavericks were picked first with seven first place votes giving them 136 points while Little Rock, picked to finish second, received two first place votes and the Trojans finished with 125 points in the poll.
After Louisiana there's a considerable gap, as Texas State, picked fifth, finished with 89 points.  Coming in sixth was Arkansas State (71 points) followed closely by South Alabama, who were voted to finish up in seventh place with 70 points just one behind the Red Wolves.
Georgia State was voted to finished eighth (65 points), Appalachian State received 50 points to get a ninth-place slot and Georgia Southern, finished two points behind the Mountaineers with 48 points, were voted to finish 10th.
Rounding out the bottom two are Coastal Carolina (33 points), picked to finish 11th and ULM (14 points) who were picked to finish in 12th.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: The Cajuns, having won their first exhibition game, 86-48, against LSU-Alexandria on Oct. 31, will play one more exhibition game hosting Xavier (La.) at the Cajundome on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
The following week, on Friday Nov. 10, the Cajuns open their regular season hosting the first round of the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament playing New Orleans in the Cajundome with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
