Amelia man wanted for fatal shooting in police custody

ST. MARY PARISH, La. -

One person is in custody accused of fatally shooting a man in Amelia Halloween night.

Christopher Singleton, 23, was found unresponsive on Friendship Alley with a gunshot wound around 11:00 pm. Singleton was transported to a Morgan City hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

On Wednesday, detectives identified Hakeemia Bias, 23, of Amelia, as the suspect in the shooting. 
Bias allegedly confronted Singleton and fired a handgun striking the victim.   A warrant for second-degree murder was issued for Bias.

The suspect turned himself into police on the warrant Thursday morning, according to Traci Landry, spokeswoman for the St. Mary Sheriff's Office.

The case remains under investigation.
