Berwick & Sam Houston Win 3A/4A District Championships

The Southwest Louisiana Swim League district championships for division 3A and 4A were held Wednesday night at the Earl J. Chris Pool at the Robicheaux Center complex. Over 200 swimmers competed in 22 events.

For the second year in a row, Berwick High School led by Coach BJ Castaneda, grabbed the 3A title in the combined boys and girls. The team racked up 816.5 points to beat out second place David Thibodeaux STEM Academy, St. Louis Catholic High School took third. In the 4A division Sam Houston High School led by coach Victoria Stetz narrowly took the trophy for the combined boys and girls with 798 points over St. Thomas More's 790. 

In the girls 3A division, Berwick took top honors, with David Thibodeaux in second and Teurlings Catholic in third. St. Thomas More girls took the 4A top spot with Sam Houston in Second. For boys 3A, it was St. Louis Catholic over Berwick with David Thibodeaux STEM in third. In 4A Sam Houston wins with St. Thomas More in second and Carencro High School in third.


Nearly 40 swimmers joined the 3A and 4A All District teams. In order to be "All District", swimmers need to finish 1st or 2nd in an individual event. More swimmers qualified for the Louisiana Swimming State Championships in Sulphur later this month, and members of the St. Louis Catholic High School boys 200 Freestyle Relay broke their own record set earlier this year with a time of 1:34.41.
