In just 24 hours, two law enforcement agencies happened upon counterfeit money separately. The Jeanerette City Marshal says there is reason to believe the money came from the same place.
On Tuesday, Jeanerette Marshal's Office found the money on a suspect Terry Charles during a traffic stop. Charles was arrested for following a vehicle too close, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, resisting an officer with force, monetary instrument abuse, and public intimidation.
Then Wednesday morning, the Delcambre Police Department posted a Facebook warning of counterfeit bills in the area. Almost identical distinct markings connect the bills found in Delcambre and Jeanerette.
"Some things stood out to us, with the Chinese printed on the money. That was one thing that stood out, he had the lines across the money," said Marshal Fernest Martin.
Martin asks that business owners alert authorities if this man has been at their stores, especially in Vermilion and Iberia parishes.
