The Iberia Parish Mosquito Abatement District will conduct mosquito abatement operations on the evening of  Monday, October 30 in the City of New Iberia and surrounding areas. The operations are being conducted due to Halloween activities slated for Tuesday, October 31.

The District is asking citizens to wear repellent and cover all exposed skin as they trick or treat on the 31st and to follow these tips:

  • Apply mosquito repellent that contains DEET, Picaridin or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus and apply as directed on the label!
  • Protect children sensitive to insect bites with repellent and cover exposed skin --- there are many preparations sold in drug stores and camping sections of local stores that are formulated for adults as well as children.
  • Wear light colored clothing with long sleeves and long pants when outdoors particularly at DAWN and DUSK.
  • Avoid wearing perfumes or colognes when outside for prolonged periods.

Abatement operations will begin at sundown on the 30th and last approximately one hour. The operations will target the City of New Iberia, Acadian Acres, Belle Place and all points in between.

The District asks that those sensitive to chemical exposure or those that wish to avoid exposure should refrain from outdoor activities. All others can proceed with normal outdoor activities.

Residents of the city may notice a low flying aircraft, the District says that if the aircraft does pass overhead, do not look up to stare or attempt to follow its path. Fly-overs will be very brief.
