Abbeville is adding another year and another egg to their Giant Omelette Festival.

"We add an egg for each year we have cooked the 5,000 egg Omelette. This year is our 33rd year hence “5033 Eggs,” festival organizers say. The fun starts Saturday, November 4 and ends on November 5, 2017

The Omelette is cooked on Sunday afternoon and Jr. Members get the chance to cook their own 600 egg Omelette next to the giant one.

The giant omelette tradition began in Bessieres, France and has spread to French-speaking communities in France, the United States, Canada, Belgium, New Caledonia, and Argentina. Abbeville is the only place that celebrates the tradition in the United States. All the celebrations are part of a confrerie and chefs often visit from other countries.
