A Baton Rouge Police officer was arrested Thursday, accusing of stealing a marijuana cigarette.

Michelle Patterson, 28, was booked with Injuring Public Records and Malfeasance in Office, a BRPD spokesman said.

Investigators believe that on September 26 Patterson responded to the Kelly Terrance Apartments in Baton Rouge to answer a complaint about a woman in the parking lot with a large bag of marijuana. The woman was located and a marijuana cigarette allegedly was found in her possession, the spokesman said.

The woman was issued a misdemeanor summons and Patterson confiscated the marijuana cigarette.  This was all captured on Patterson's body cam, the spokesman said.

The next day, Patterson typed her report of the incident mentioning the events that occurred, documenting that a misdemeanor summons was issued, and that the marijuana cigarette was placed in evidence, the spokesman said.  Later the same day, however, detectives allege that Patterson deleted the initial report and changed the report to leave out the fact that a misdemeanor summons was issued or that a marijuana cigarette was found. She allegedly submitted the false report, which a supervisor later approved.  The original misdemeanor summons written was later found in Patterson's issued police vehicle, the spokesman said.

Baton Rouge Police started an internal investigation that led to this discovery.

Patterson has been a Baton Rouge Police Officer for around two years, assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. She is currently on Administrative Leave, the spokesman said.

Patterson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail. Her bond was set at $1,000.
