Pet Paws: Tracy talks cat care, adoption

Posted: Updated:

KATC's Tracy Wirtz was at the Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center visiting with the cats and kittens in the facility's cat room.

Today's conversation focuses closely on what cats like and don't like and how cat parents can make sure their cats are receiving all the love they need from their owners. The shelter says that cats are amazing pets, and while they are often low maintenance and independent, that independence does not mean they want to be left alone. According to the shelter, cats enjoy being petted, but some can be particular about the places where they are petted.

Cats enjoy a clean environment. Clean drinking water and a clean litter box are very important to making sure a cat's home environment is comfortable. They also enjoy their play time, loving the chance to jump and play instinctively to bond with their owners. Inevitably, cats will scratch and scratching posts are a great way to stop cats from going after furniture or clothes. They are also a great way to help a cat relax.

Those wanting to adopt a wonderful cat companion can visit the Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center on Pont Des Mouton Rd. Adoption fees are $25 and covers spaying or neutering, micro-chipping, vaccinations, and feline leukemia and AIDS testing.
