Abbeville man celebrates five year anniversary of his own "death" and revival

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday was the anniversary of the death and revival of Ronnie Trahan.

"Five years ago I passed away, I was on my way to heaven," said Trahan.

"I just remember my mom running out the house, call 9-1-1, call 9-1-1," said Kari Dore, Trahan's step daughter.

"Within a matter of seconds he went from having a pulse to complete cardiac arrest and he coded right there," said Beau Barras, a firefighter who was first on the scene of Trahan's momentary death.

"God was working his miracle that day and I'm still here five years later," said Trahan. This was not without a few more trials though. Since his heart attack, Trahan received two heart transplants and a new kidney.

Now healthy and mobile, he has a lot more life in him than you might expect. Tuesday, his family came to Abbeville Fire Department to honor those who gave him a second chance.

"They just never gave up," said Trahan.

"We had some spiritual help that day that allowed Mr. Trahan to succeed and have a better life," said Barras.

Trahan and his whole family have a new outlook after the ups and downs of the past five years.

"Never give up and just always have hope because there is a light at the end of the tunnel always so just keep going," said Dore.
