LEF deadline for teacher nominations set for Oct 31

Posted: Updated:

The Lafayette Education Foundation is accepting nominations for the LEF Teacher Awards 20th awards ceremony. Last year 1,700 letters were sent in from around Lafayette to nominate deserving teachers for these prestigious awards. In honor of its 20th year, LEF has made it even easier to nominate your favorite teacher by providing an online application and submission process. LEF hopes to gather more nominations this year to honor the fantastic educators that teach here in Lafayette.

Teachers eligible, according to LEF:

Any active PreK-4 thru 12th grade educator in a Lafayette Parish public, charter, private or parochial school. The educator does not have to be the teacher a student has this school year - it can be a teacher who impacted the student's life years ago. As long as they are currently teaching in Lafayette Parish, they are eligible for nomination.

Each nomination letter is read by the Teacher Awards Selection Committee, a group of volunteers including but not limited to LEF Board Members, sponsors, and community volunteers.  The letters which convey the greatest impact determine the sixteen finalists.

The LEF Teacher Awards will be held on January 18, 2018 and will focus on the educators, making them feel like the celebrities that they are. Nominees will gather at the Heymann Center surrounded by their family, students, and community members; awards begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for general admission. Tickets go on sale December 1.

The last day to nominate a teacher is Tuesday, October 31.
