Many of you in St. Martin Parish have called and messaged us about a loud boom that you heard around 10 p.m. Monday night.  Some of you even said the explosion shook your houses.

Despite rumors that the explosion was caused by the sonic boom from military jets, Louisiana State Police says that's not the case.

According to state troopers, LSP's emergency services squad is at a location in St. Martin Parish performing a controlled detonation of old military equipment.  Troopers say that extinguishing old military items is one of the many services that the emergency services section provides.

Troopers say the explosions are not a cause for alarm, and that no one is in danger.
