Two repeat offender juveniles were arrested in Port Barre yesterday after allegedly shooting stolen guns in a rural area.

Port Barre Chief of Police Deon Boudreaux says the boys were in the wooded area near Pacific and Seneca streets, but fled the scene.

The young suspects were quickly apprehended by police thereafter.

Officers searched the wooded area and recovered a .38 Special pistol and a 12 Gauge shotgun along with spent cartridges and live ammunition.

Investigation revealed one of the juveniles had burglarized a nearby home where he stole the firearms and a Samsung Tablet, according to Chief Boudreaux. Officers were able to locate the tablet and return it along with the guns to the owner.

Both boys were booked and charged with illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, illegal possession of stolen firearms and discharging a firearm in city limits, one of whom was also charged with burglary.

Police say one of the juveniles has been arrested dozens of times and since his release from a detention center in July, they've handled over 40 complaints involving the suspect. He was transferred to the Lafayette Detention Center, and the other suspect was released to his parents.
