The Shake Your Trail Feather Festival kicks off Saturday, Oct. 21

Posted: Updated:

The Shake Your Trail Feather Festival presented by The Teche Project will be held this Saturday, October 21 at Parc des Pont in Breaux Bridge at 11:30 a.m.

The festival begins at dawn with a 20 or 40 mile bike ride. After the ride participants will begin their "Paddle to the Party" by stepping into canoes and boats of all sizes at Poche Bridge and paddling the river escorted by a barge with a live Cajun band on board. The paddle procession will end at Parc des Pont in Breaux Bridge where the festival will take place. Those who want to attend but not paddle can make their way to Parc des Pont for the festival.

Those interested in the bike ride and paddle can contact Patti Holland at howldogfarms@gmail.com or 337-277-4645

Music begins at the park at 11:30 a.m. with the St. Bernard School Children playing followed by several Cajun favorites. A heritage tent will be set up to talk about the water levels in the Bayou Teche and Vermilion as well as a recreational panel that will discuss boating activities available on both bayous. Crafts, food, and vendor and partner booths will be set up for guest to peruse and purchase.

The festival will raffle a kayak and original festival art off as the grand finale to the day's events. The festival is free to attend but organizers ask that those who attend spend some money so that funds can be raised to establish the Bayou Teche National Paddle Trail. Dress in your feathers and head out to enjoy a day of fun.
