UPDATE: Second Assumption High student arrested for bringing gun to campus

UPDATE:  Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office says that a second student has been arrested in the investigation involving a gun at Assumption High School. 

Officers say that the student was interrogated in the presence of a guardian and admitted to the allegation. The 15-year-old male is a tenth grader was arrested and booked on one count of Carrying a Firearm or Dangerous Weapon by a Student or Non-Student on School Property. 

He was released to the custody of a guardian pending delinquent juvenile proceedings.

A 15-year-old ninth grade student at Assumption High School was arrested Monday for allegedly bringing a gun to school. 

According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office, a faculty member contacted the school resource officer and advised that a handgun had been located in a bathroom at the school. The deputy was able to recover the gun which was found to be a .22 caliber handgun. 

An investigation was conducted, which included interviewing faculty and reviewing school surveillance video. 

Officers say that the investigation determined that a ninth grade student was identified as the individual who brought the gun to school. The student was questioned by police while in the presence of his guardians. At that time, deputies say that the student admitted to bringing the gun to school. 

Investigators say they also recovered a knife and razor blades as well as an assortment of masks in the student's school bag.

The juvenile was arrested on charges of:

  • Illegal Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile
  • Illegal Carrying of Weapons
  • Carrying a Firearm or Dangerous Weapon by a Student on School Property

The juvenile is being held pending judicial proceedings.
