BATON ROUGE, La. -

The Humane Society of Louisiana is offering a $1,200 reward for information that will identify the person responsible for hanging a cat alongside a Baton Rouge building.

A spokesman with the Humane Society says the young cat was found hanging from a pole attached to the side of a building in the 1900 block of Staring Lane.

Shoppers noticed the cat on Tuesday evening. The Baton Rouge Animal Control removed the animal and ordered a necropsy. The necropsy determined the cat was alive prior to its asphyxiation, the spokesman says.

Video footage from a nearby building captured the image of a man carrying the cat prior to it being hanged.

Those wishing to provide information are encouraged to call the Baton Rouge Animal Control Center during regular business hours, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at 225- 774-7700 or the Baton Rouge Police Department at 225-389-2070. The Humane Society of Louisiana can be reached by calling 1-888-6-HUMANE.

The Humane Society also plans to canvass the neighborhood and distribute flyers this Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
