A Lafayette grand jury has indicted a Kaplan man in connection with the August shooting death of Christon Chaisson.

Witnesses told KATC that Chaisson, 31, intervened when he saw a man fighting with a woman in the parking lot of the Rosa Parks Transportation Center. He was shot and died on his way to the hospital.

On Wednesday, the grand jury indicted Tyler Benoit, 20, on a charge of second-degree murder.

If convicted, Benoit faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
