NEW ORLEANS -

The Coast Guard is on the scene of an oil spill in Plaquemines Parish.

It happened earlier today in Lake Washington, just south of Port Sulphur.

Officials say about 1,300 gallons of oil and water were discharged from a casing line on an oil well, causing a heavy rainbow sheen and pockets of brown oil to form over a two-mile area.

The Coast Guard says it has deployed boom in the area.  Officials also say there's no threat to the shoreline.
