I-10 East now open after fatal crash, Troopers still investigating

Louisiana State Police say that the crash on I-10 east occurred around 5:00 a.m Monday morning is still being investigated. The crash took the life of the driver of an 18-wheeler. He has not been identified. 

Troopers say that after an investigation, it was determined the driver of the 18 wheeler was traveling eastbound near the Butte La Rose exit. For unknown reasons, the driver ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a bridge attenuator, and began to overturn. 

The truck reportedly crossed both eastbound lanes when it came to a stop and ignited.  

Officials say that due to the fire, it is unknown if the driver was wearing a seat belt. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Louisiana State Police along with the St. Martin Parish Coroner's office is attempting to identify the driver. It is still unknown if impairment caused the crash. 

As 1:00 p.m., I-10 Eastbound was reopened to traffic after being closed for several hours.
