SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team lost 3-0 to the Texas State Bobcats here in San Marcos, wrapping up the road portion of their 2017 Sun Belt Conference regular season schedule.

HOW IT HAPPENED (First Half): Making her first start since Aug. 25 against McNeese, sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Mendes was tested early as the Bobcats took two quick shots on goal in the fourth minute, but Mendes made both back-to-back saves to keep the Bobcats from scoring early.
The Cajuns got in the game with a header from senior Whitney Taggart in the 16th minute, unfortunately for Louisiana it sailed just wide of goal as the score stayed at 0-0.
Mendes made another stop in the 18th minute, giving her three saves within the first 20 minutes of the match.
Texas State took the lead with their first goal of the game in the 26th minute when Kassi Hormuth got one past Mendes, putting the score at 1-0 in favor of the Bobcats.
Right at the start of the 33rd minute, Louisiana's defense stood tall as they made a clearance off the line to keep the Bobcats from extending their lead making sure the match didn't get away from them more than halfway through the first half.
As the half came to an end, the Cajuns had two quick shots on goal. First in the 42nd minute senior Kimberly Grasso ripped one at goal that forced Bobcats keeper, Heather Martin, to make a save. Senior Ashleigh Cadefollowed that up with a shot of her own in the 44th minute which against forced Martin to stay on her toes as the half winded down.
At the end of the first half the Cajuns trailed the Bobcats 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Second Half): Texas State scored early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute when Renny Moore put one in the net to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Louisiana now looked to fight back and Cade took a shot that sailed just high in the 56th minute and the Cajuns defense came up with a blocked shot on the counter in the 57th minute to keep the score at 2-0.
In the 65th minute junior Lexi Turner nearly got the Cajuns on the board and back in the match when she powered a header towards goal that nailed the post and shortly thereafter senior Rebecca Foley's header went just over the crossbar.
Mendes recorded two more saves within a four-minute period. First, she stopped a shot in the 68th minute and she was again called to action in the 71st minute making another save keeping the score at 2-0.
Unfortunately for the Cajuns, the Bobcats extended their lead in the 80th minute with a goal from Rachal Grout, the goal put the score at 3-0 with 15 minutes left in the game.
The Cajuns recorded a few more shots as the match came to an end, but none of them were on goal and the final whistle blew with the score at 3-0 in favor of Texas State.
NOTEWORTHY: Mendes' seven saves were a career high easily surpassing her previous high of three and the 21 shots she faced were the most in her career as well; Cade lead the Cajuns with three shots, one of which were on goal; Grasso matched Cade with three shots, but Grasso put two of those on goal through the match; Taggart yet again recorded two headers neither of which were on goal but she continues to be a force in the box.
