Press Release

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball junior libero Sydney Davis claimed Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in the past three weeks after the league chose her as the recipient for matches played Sept. 25-Oct. 1.

Davis selection marks the fifth consecutive week that the Ragin' Cajuns have at least one representative on the list of weekly award winners which are voted upon by the Sun Belt's head coaches.

Davis, who won the award on Sept. 18 following the Chicago State Invitational, is the first Ragin' Cajun to earn repeat defensive player of the week honors in a season since Lindsay Brown in 2010.

She joins teammates Jessica Bartczyszyn (setter) and Hali Wisnoskie (freshman) in claiming multiple player of the week awards from the Sun Belt this season.

Davis topped the Ragin' Cajuns back row efforts in the first sweep of the Arkansas State-Little Rock weekend since the 2012 season. She totaled 46 digs and averaged 5.11 per set as Louisiana extended its Sun Belt start to 4-0 which marks the program's best start as a member of the league and ties the 1986 team (members of Southland Conference) for the all-time record.

The St. Joseph Academy product's weekend digs total (46) was the most recorded by a Sun Belt player in matches played Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

She tied her season-high figure with 27 digs vs. ASU, nine of the scoops coming over the fourth and fifth sets as the Cajuns rallied for the win which kept the undefeated SBC start intact.

Her 19 digs vs. Little Rock were highlighted by eight in the opening set as the Cajuns took the early lead in the match on the way to securing a second straight SBC weekend sweep.

The Ragin' Cajuns, winners of five straight matches overall, are set to play three matches this week against Louisiana schools.

The week begins on Tuesday (Oct. 3) with the team wrapping up a three-match homestand and non-conference play when Southeastern Louisiana visits Earl K. Long Gym for a 6:30 p.m. match. Over the weekend, the Ragin' Cajuns play a Sun Belt home-and-home with ULM starting Friday (Oct. 6) in Monroe and finishing Sunday (Oct. 8) at Earl K. Long Gym.
