Festival de la Grande Eglise to be held Oct. 7 in Opelousas

The Festival de la Grande Eglise, hosted by the St. Landry Catholic Church, will kick-off Saturday, October 7 on the grounds of the Catholic Church in Opelousas. 

All proceeds from the festival will benefit the upkeep of the church and the church cemetery, both historic landmarks in the city of Opelousas.

The festival will hold a pre-festival event on Wednesday, October 4 at the Delta Grand Theater located at 120 S Market Street in Opelousas. The event will feature a silent auction and jazz entertainment. The cash bar opens at 5:30 p.m. with a meal served at 6:00 p.m.

The Festival will officially begin on Saturday, October 7, and include several events suitable for the entire family.  A Jambalaya Cook-off will be held throughout the festival beginning at 7:00 a.m. with judging at 11:30 a.m and awards announced at 3:00 p.m.

A 2 Mile Color Run is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Registration for the run begins at 8:00 a.m. for those interested in participating. Festival attendees will also be able to take informative tours of the church and cemetery all day during the festival.

Live music begins at noon and will be provided by Greg Matinez and The Delta Kings.

Food will also be served at the festival in the form of a spaghetti dinner, for which tickets are still available for purchase. A sweet shop and concessions will also be available for those who attend.
