Petition circulating Kaplan to recall Police Chief Boyd Adams

Posted: Updated:
Kaplan, La. -

A recall petition is circulating against Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams. Adams was arrested this week, facing theft and malfeasance in office charges.

According to state police, Adams used $7,000 dollars from a city account for personal expenses.

Now, some in Kaplan say breaking the law, should cause a man of the law his job.

"I want it to be known I want the people of Kaplan to come over here sign the petition and stand up for themselves. You know that's my goal," said Roy Whiteman who filed for the recall petition.

He now runs a Face book page called Kaplan Citizens Recall so people can find where him and his volunteers are with the papers.

In the first 24 hours, this petition got more than 100 signatures.

"People are scared they don't know what's going to happen if they sign it they don't know if he's going to see it their scared to raise their voice but they need to because signing this is what's going to help us get through this," said Lindsey Trahan who is volunteering and gathering signatures around town.

Trahan said they will even come to you at your house if you would like to sign but are unable to meet them due to disability or no transportation.

There are 2,995 registered voters in Kaplan. The group has 90 days to get 999 signatures or 1/3 of those registered to vote.

Whiteman who also owns a business in town said, "Yes, I'm running a big risk here but people in the city they want to speak up and a lot of them are scared to speak up."
