American Idol advice from former Acadiana finalist

Posted: Updated:

American Idol is coming back to television for its 15th season. You can watch it on KATC starting in January.

And that means the search for the next American Idol is on.

Auditions will be held in New Orleans tomorrow and we caught up with a previous finalist from Acadiana who has some advice if you're thinking of trying out.

Joshua Ledet from west lake Louisiana became a season 11 finalist on American idol.

"It's done so much for me I just can't even explain I got to sing for the president"

On American Idol, he made it to the top three and the show helped him go from one LA to another, Louisiana to Los Angeles, where he's currently working on a new album.

"I've already released an EP and I'm working on a new album that will be released in 2018," Ledet said in a Skype interview.

His advice for those auditioning?

"Number one, you definitely should sing a song that's current but not too current where everyone else is singing."

Although your vocals are most important, dressing the part is also key.

"Literally I just changed my clothes and sang the exact same song the next year, exact same song the exact same way I just changed my clothes and got through so looks do matter," he stressed.

Each time you perform, if you get more than one chance, give it your all. Every single time.

"If you're a country singer you have to be the best and you have to give it 110 percent every time you can't slack and don't be shy because I was shy a lot and that kind of affected me in some ways."

Focus on yourself and don't let the voices around you influence you.

"Be confident in yourself and don't pay any mind to any of the other contestants or how good they are just focus on  yourself," he said.

And the most important advice that he offered?

"Be true to yourself and always go with your gut. Don't listen to what other contestants tell you listen to the producers but if you feel it in your heart, do it and that's what is going to get you far," he said.
