Ribbon cut on Evangeline Parish communications building

Posted: Updated:

The new Evangeline Parish Communications building is now open.

The 8,000-square-foot facility houses all 911 operations for the parish, as well as offices and facilities for the Office of Emergency Preparedness.

The building cost $1.9 million to build, and is constructed to withstand a Category 3 Hurricane.

Director Liz Hill said it has taken about a year to work all the kinks out, so that they were ready for today's ribbon cutting.

"This facility was built as a hub of communications for the whole parish," Hill said. "We've been in it for one year. We have 911 dispatch here, and it's also the place we meet during a natural disaster or anything of that nature to discuss our plan of action for the parish."

Hill said her department paid for part of the building, and the rest was raised by selling bonds. There was quite a turn-out for the event, and she said she was overwhelmed by the support.

"It's heartwarming to know we have so much support," she said. "We did get a lot of messages from people who couldn't be here, as well. But we're very thankful for people who were able to attend."
