Morgan City man accused of stealing more than $160 K from local business

MORGAN CITY, La. -

A 35-year-old man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a Morgan City business.

Ludger C. Couvillion, of Morgan City, was arrested Wednesday, September 13, 2017, on a warrant stemming from a November 2016 investigation into improprieties at a local business in the Morgan City area, according to Lieutenant John Schaff, spokesman for the Morgan City Police Department. 

Evidence was uncovered linking Couvillion to the theft of $164,054.97 from the business, stated the spokesman. The crime involved tax forms. It was also found during the investigation that Couvillion allegedly fabricated fraudulent documents in connection with the theft.   

Couvillion was booked into the Morgan City Jail on charges of theft over $25,000 and unlawful production of fraudulent documents.
