Tonight, the Iberia Parish Council will consider joining a multi-parish mutual aid agreement.
The resolution, which will be taken up during the council's regular meeting at 6 p.m., would have Iberia Parish join Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Calcasieu, Cameron, Vermilion, St. Martin, Iberia, St. Mary, St. James, Ascension, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, Livingston, and Tangipahoa parishes in a Multiparish Emergency Mutual Aid and Assistance Agreement.
If approved, the parishes agree to provide emergency mutual aid and assistance during times of disasters.
Also on the agenda is a resolution to amend the Airport Authority Fund Budget. The Acadiana Regional Airport has received a grant of $852,160 to widen a taxiway. The grant is funded 90 percent by the federal government and 10 percent by the state government. If the parish council approves acceptance of the grant, it would then have to be approved by the Iberia Parish Airport Authority.
