Downtown Alive! kicks off with new features

Posted: Updated:

The 2017 Fall Season of Downtown Alive! starts this Friday at Parc International with Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie headlining the event. Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playboys will also perform.

The event is a collaboration with Festivals Acadiens et Créole, and showcases a revamped event with more food vendors, pre-concert entertainment and family-friendly activities.

The pre-concert event will be a "Happiest Hour" where a certain downtown establishment showcases their bar skills, with special drink specials and other entertainment.

This Friday, the event will be at Parc International with specialty drinks by Pamplona Tapas Bar featuring their famous “Sangria” at special Happiest Hour price of $3 to include Pamplona Souvenir Cup from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.  They will be joined by a live Cajun Jam featuring the UL Cajun Ensemble with Chad Huval. Harold Bernard of Glide Studios will present a Cajun dance demonstration during the jam to gear dancers in for an evening of fun.  The party will continue after DTA! with an “After Party” which will begin at Pamplona Tapa’s Bar.

Other changes to the event include ensuring family friendly seating is provided in the grassy areas of the Parcs with a clear view to the stage.  There is a new kids club with exclusive kid-fun locations at Parc International.  Members of the club will receive their own special club pass and stickers, with more features coming soon.  This week, members will enjoy face-painting, balloon artists,  and bungee jumps from Jump Hero Bungee, and activities at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana inside Parc International.

A revamped food area will each week feature a rotating cast of food trucks and vendors. This Friday, the participants will include Taco Sisters, Bons Temps Grill, Carpe Diem!, Joy’s Curbside Cuisine, and Lagneaux’s.

This week, DTA is held in conjunction with a national event called “Parking Day” where parking spaces are reimagined into people spaces (Parklets) for a day.  As part of an event taking place across the nation, all day long on Jefferson Street Downtown groups and businesses compete for the best entry.  You can vote on your favorite and the winner will be announced at DTA.

As always with DTA, no ice chests, smoking or pets.

This year's Downtown Alive! line up can be found at the Downtown Lafayette Unlimited website and on Facebook.
