LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball freshman outside hitter Hali Wisnoskie was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week for matches played Sept. 4-10, the league office announced on Monday.
Wisnoskie led Louisiana in kills in a weekend tournament for the second straight weekend, tallying 32 kills on a .338 hitting percentage at the Rice Adidas Invitational.
She landed at least eight kills in each of the Ragin' Cajuns three matches, highlighted by a weekend-high 16 kills on a .519 percentage against Mississippi State. In the match vs. MSU, Wisnoskie tallied at least three kills each set in helping the Cajuns take the Bulldogs to five sets.
The Columbus, Texas native received her first career weekly Sun Belt award. She's the second Ragin' Cajun to be honored in as many weeks, joining last week's SBC Setter of the Week Jessica Bartczyszyn in being recognized by the league.
Wisnoskie is the first individual in Louisiana's program history to earn SBC Freshman of the Week since the award was instituted by the conference office in 2013.
Averaging 2.85 kills per set through the season's first three weekends, Wisnoskie ranks second on the squad. She's tallied 94 kills over 33 sets and her .243 hitting percentage is tops amongst the Ragin' Cajuns' outside hitters group. Dating back to last weekend's Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic, she's tallied at least eight kills in each match.
The Ragin' Cajuns take in their final pre-conference tournament of the season Friday Saturday, Sept. 15-16 at the Chicago State Invitational. Louisiana faces Chicago State, Wright State and Eastern Michigan in the event.
