LPSB to consider step increase for teachers

Posted: Updated:

The Finance Committee of the Lafayette Parish School Board met today to discuss a staff recommendation to fund a step increase for teachers.

Staff are asking, based on sales tax collections so far, that the board approve a step increase for teachers. To see sales tax collection figures, scroll down.

"Now that we have the actual increase amounts for last year, none of that was budgeted so we are asking to be allowed to budget sixty percent of it, still leaving some cushion for a slight decrease but at the same time providing some funding for the step increase and the pay for performance increase," explained Billy Guidry, executive director and chief financial officer of the school system.

The finance committee voted to carry the motion to recommend the step increase. The measure will have to be voted on by the entire school board on a later date.
