Staying nice...few Irma clouds Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

Acadiana's weather pattern will remain pleasant for most of the week, with the exceptions of a few wrap around clouds from Irma likely making it into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Overall, the pattern looks relatively dry this week with a brief isolated sprinkle or shower possible Wednesday (10%) and then with more heat and humidity a shower or tow may be possible, but not likely this weekend.

Look for pleasant Tuesday morning low temperatures to range in the "window-opening" upper 50s to lower 60s, with plenty of sunshine Tuesday afternoon to bring our temperatures into the low-mid 80s.

After the round of some clouds Wednesday, mostly sunny skies should dominate Thursday and Friday.

This weekend will be partly cloudy, warm and a little more humid with a slight chance of an isolated afternoon shower or storm possible

Meanwhile in the tropics, Tropical Storm Irma was continuing to batter the Southeast US with  gusty winds up to 50 mph along with elevated storm tides from Northeastern Florida through South Carolina. Conditions will slowly improve here over the next couple of days.

Meanwhile open the Atlantic, Hurricane Jose was sporting category 2 winds at 100 mph.  Jose will likely stay a hurricane while looping clockwise for the next several days, then should eventually move northward, but could threaten portions of the East Coast during the 5-8 period.

Jose shouldn't be a threat to the Gulf of Mexico, but there is a large spread in the models beyond 5 days that garners a "bears watch" status.

Elsewhere and much farther to the east, the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a disturbance several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, with a 20% chance of development over the next 5 days.

The next name on the "list" is "Lee".

Finally, Sunday marked the midday point in the Atlantic hurricane season, so there could still be another Gulf threat or two during the last week of September into the first couple of weeks into October...fingers crossed that we're done, but it's way too early to say that.
