CROWLEY, La. -

The man who died after falling into a rice bin Wednesday afternoon just south of Crowley has been identified.

Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson confirms that the man, identified as Wayne Richard, 45 of Morse, died after falling into the rice bin on Benton and Faulk Road. Officials say the incident happened at Faulk Farms just after 4:00 p.m. as farmers were working in the bins.

Deputies report that Richard was trapped under the rice inside the bin as workers and first responders attempted to free him.  Richard was located and crews worked to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful.

Richard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner's Office.

"This tragic incident has been ruled accidental and the investigation is closed. I would like to personally thank the many farmers and first responders who fought to save Mr. Richard" stated Sheriff KP Gibson.
