Ush One See hosts annual 5K/10K in River Ranch

Posted: Updated:

Six-year-old Hunter Faucheaux does not let anything stand in his way.

Born with Usher 1-C syndrome, a genetic disorder, and profoundly deaf--Hunter has been through a lot in his short life.

"We decided to do the cochlear implants at age one," Elise Faucheaux, Hunter's mom, said. "When  he was activated, he did cry a little bit. I think it was scary for him. For the first year he didn't hear any sound and then all of a sudden there is this sound in his ear and he doesn't know what it is."

As Hunter gets older--there is a great chance he will lose his eyesight. Despite all of this, Hunter's parents say they try and focus on the positives in life.

"We just take it day-by-day we don't live by it," Elise said. "We pray and hope for the best."

But what they are doing is bringing awareness about Ush-1C to Acadiana. Elise started a non-profit--her mission--to help with the vision loss aspect of Ush-1.

"We work hard to raise money for research," Elise said. "There is a lot of research in the works right now."

On Saturday, September 16th "Ush One See" will host its annual 5K/10K in River Ranch.
