Lawrence Michael Handley is now in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Handley was arrested Friday in Slidell, on a warrant of conspiracy to commit second-degree kidnapping, online impersonation and violation of a protective order. He was found at a local motel and arrested by the Slidell Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
Handley was first booked into the Slidell City Jail, but spent the weekend in the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. This afternoon, KATC TV3 received a notification that he had left that jail, and this afternoon he was booked into LPCC.
Handley is accused in connection with the kidnapping of a woman at his Lafayette home last week. The two men believed to have been the kidnappers were found drowned in the Intracoastal Canal a day later.
Two bodies were pulled from the Intracoastal Canal on Monday of this week, they have been identified in connection with the kidnapping. They ran into a traffic jam on Interstate 10 and tried to get out of it by driving on the shoulder, but instead they captured the attention of police, who chased them until their van got stuck in the mud. They fled, leaving the victim bound in the back of the van. Their bodies were found the next day.
