This afternoon, a couple outflow boundaries collided over top Lafayette and St. Martin parishes, creating some intense thunderstorms.
Out ahead of these storms gusty winds near 30-40mph hammered the area causing tree limbs to get knocked down.
These storms are also producing heavy downpours with lots of cloud to ground lightning and loud thunder.
The storms are slowly moving to the south so rainfall totals across southern Lafayette parish are adding up quickly as many areas have seen between 1-3 inches of rain leading to some flash flooding on roadways and poor drainage areas.
These storms will continue to drift to the south but many areas will see heavy showers and storms until 5-6pm before things begin to improve.
Please stay inside until the storms have passed and the waters have been able to drain.
