A Topsy man was killed early Friday after he walked into the path of a truck on the highway, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies say.

Ryan G. Little, 33, was first seen walking in Jeff Davis Parish near the parish line, deputies said. An older man driving a truck stopped and gave him a ride, but then Little started acting erratically and hitting the man, so he pulled over his truck and ran away to get help.

A few minutes later, other witnesses saw Little walking westbound on Topsy Road, acting erratically and trying to stop passing vehicles. Little apparently continued walking west on Topsy Road, in the middle of the westbound lane, and that's when a pick-up truck was unable to stop in time and struck him, deputies say.

Little was pronounced dead at the scene, they say.

In accordance with Louisiana state law, standard toxicology testing will be performed on both the driver and the pedestrian. Impairment of the driver is not suspected.

The fatality is still under investigation. The older man was transported to the hospital.

CPSO Sgt. Bryan Guth is the lead investigator on this case.
