10 of the 12 dogs scheduled for euthanization at the Vermilion Parish animal shelter are still up for adoption and fostering.

Officials with Animal Aid Vermilion Area say that Vincent has been fostered and Gus is set to be rescued. The "Vermilion Dozen" as they are called, are facing euthanization unless fosters or adoptive families can take them in.

The shelter is holding an open meet and greet, so the dogs in need of urgent adoption or fostering can get into good homes.

The meeting will be at the Vermilion Parish Rabies and Animal Control Facility on Saturday, August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

In June, the shelter was able to adopt out 10 dogs on the euthanization list after reaching capacity. The shelter facing the same challenge now.
