A residence on Cypress Place ignited into flames yesterday evening.
Sunset firefighters and police officers were on scene as heavy smoke emitted into the air.
"I noticed they had smoke that wasn't supposed to be there. We figured the house was on fire. There's a house on fire! I jumped out of the car. I parked in the middle of the driveway, and I jumped out and ran," says Tim Dodge, an onlooker.
It is unclear at this time what caused the fire or if anyone was injured.
Residents say a well-known doctor was the original owner of the home before the new owners moved in.
"It brings tears to my eyes to see it happen. I think about poor Dr. Fruge. He's gone now, but I spent quite a few nights in the house with his kids. We were all family friends. He took care of us as we were kids," lamented Kristi Ardoin, who works across the street.
The house is a total loss.
"From myself and the people in the area, we just want to send our condolences out to [the homeowners]. Hopefully, you can restart your life. May God bless you guys in the recovery efforts," said Ardoin.
