Louisiana farmers hit by the 2016 floods will get 10 million dollars in grant funding through a federal aid program.

The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the funding is not a loan, it is a way for farmers to get much-needed help. It is part of a 1.6 billion dollar congressional appropriation for Restore Louisiana.

"We received 10 million dollars from the federal government," said Dir. Ashley Dupree. "Commissioner Strain has fought tirelessly to get 10 million dollars for the producers so we hope that this will sustain some of the producers that were able to make it through the floods."
